Lassithi, the eastern Prefecture of Crete, is surrounded by three Seas and exhibits an especially interesting environment. The bold presence of vegetation is due to the presence of vast olive plantations. To the west, the mountain range of Dikti looms imposingly.
The capital of the Prefecture is the picturesque town of Agios Nikolaos; other significant settlements are the towns of Ierapetra, Sitia and Neapoli. The most important archaeological site is the Palace of Zakros. In Vai, one can visit the famous palm forest.
The local mild climate renders the area healthy for human beings and also favourable for the growth of cultivations and especially of early gardening. Lassithi is distinguished for its rich cultural tradition which is preserved from generation to generation.
