Xanthi is a multicultural Prefecture, where Greeks live harmoniously along with the Muslim minority. The capital city of Xanthi has preserved elements of its past in the Old City, such as the celebrated traditional carnival.
The “Stena Nestos” path follows a superb 15-kilometer route which is traversed by the rail network and various footpaths. Other natural assets of the Prefecture include Lake Vistonida – a significant biotope-, the waterfall of Livaditis and the Haidou forest.
The most well-known predominantly Muslim villages, such as Echinos and Myki, are located on the mountainous parts of the Prefecture, where several minarets stand out and a magnificent natural environment captures the visitor’s eye. Near the seaside, one can visit the impressive remains of the ancient city of Avdira.
